The brilliant, white modern structure of Trinity belies its colonial heritage of 150 years as the headquarters of the Dutch East India Company. Set beside the Parade Ground, just yards from the water’s edge, step out onto the bustling main street of Fort Cochin and immediately be absorbed into its ambiance. Withina minutes walk in any direction you will discover the culture and ancient art of Life in Fort Cochin- Chinese fishing nets, the fish market, traders, tourists, locals going about their normal life and tuk tuks winding their way through all of these create a colourful and good natured scene.

The approach to Trinity bears its true heritage with a gate and crest VOC. The monogram, which is dated 1740, represents the once mighty Dutch East India Company, which had its offices here for almost 150 years.

Soumitro Ghosh designed and produced a very contemporary setting best likened with the "hip hotels around the World. Within the space he created a unique ambience showcasing the best of contemporary Indian design & art and antique furniture.

The suites encircle a common hall. An intimate swimming pool and deck at the lower level complete this very private setting. 2008 will see the adition of 2 more art deco suites on the ground floor where a wonderful Boutique shop once traded. Fear not , the delights of this store can still be found at its new location next door.

Art and sculpture play a dominant role at Trinity which each room adopting a character and artist of its own. The white walls allow the story of artand brightly coloured silks to unfold.

Only breakfast is taken at Trinity and you are invited to stroll 200m across the Parade Ground to sister boutique, Malabar House, for a light lunch or delicious dinner.

To ring the changes there are many other restaurants within walking or tuk tuk distance, but having sampled the delicious menu and attentive service of Malabar House you may not wish to wander far.

The attractively designed pool is more of a ‘refresher’ than an opportunity to swim, but guests have the use of the pool and other facilities at Malabar also, and the sense of privacy at Trinity and intimacy makes up for lack of laps.

The 3 suites are spacious, elegant and filled with up to the minute equipment to control blinds, air conditioning, music etc.

The outdoor bathrooms, sitting areas and communal dining are all designed by the same colourful but serene hand. Once through the doors you could be in any chic apartment in the world.

Highs Lows
  • Quiet, private, luxurious and chic.
  • Impeccable service.
  • Bikes available to explore the narrow streets – if you have nerves of steel.
  • No ‘rooms with a view’.
  • Pool and public areas rather small.
  • For evening entertainment you need to visit the larger hotels of the city.
