This perfectly named boutique residence offers†hotel comforts and service whilst surrounding you with the peace of the forest, 3000ft up in the hills. The working plantation is concerned with the production of coffee, pepper, vanilla and cardamom and you are welcome to tour and discover the ‘how and why’ of it all.

Your hosts Victor and Jini Dey are delightful and treat every guest as if they were their first. One of Kerala's first 'homestays' and which truely understand the fine line between†sharing family life† and†Kerala†hospitality and providing guests with the privacy they sometimes desire.

Tranquil is set on a variety of levels all overlooking the estate- the pool lies below with loungers and a seperate jacuzzi for those taking 'time out'.† The house over looks the pool, but with its numerous verandhas and pretty courtyard gardens sun bathers will not feel exposed.

Guests at the 70 year old restored home have a choice of nine huge rooms, with gleaming timber floors, king size beds, tables and comfortable chairs and stunning views from the windows, with perhaps the most romantic ‘room’ of all being the Tree House Suite. Though apparently cocooned from the world in its tranquility, there is TV, IDD and internet, adequate road connections and back up generators for power supply.

Meals are prepared to Indian and Western tastes, and are†usually served buffet style round the big tables on the open sided dining room.

For moments of total relaxation enjoy the secluded terrace, the breezy veranda, or poolside hammocks and loungers. After dark when the air is cool the cosy lounge and bar beckon, to welcome you to convivial evenings with your family and fellow guests.

Jini's attention detail doe not go unnoticed- the cookies and chocolate jars in each room- believe me temptataion will get the better of you and yes they will be topped up each day!† There is a wonderful blend style and† colonial hues in the furnishings- home from home.

An important and luxurious extra at Tranquil is the Ayurvedic programme. Several styles of massage may be booked, and the herbal bath taken afterwards is truly relaxing. Try it after a trek along the forest trails, a visit to the local Game Sanctuary or a climb up to the Edakkal Caves.

Bird lovers will be in their element. Brilliant flashes of colour from the Scarlet Minivet, Plum Headed Parakeet and the Golden Oriole will lift your eyes to the tree tops. Iridescent kingfishers brighten the banks and the smart black and white Magpie Robin is as cheeky as its English cousin. Many more species will be glimpsed as you laze or trek; the exotic Asian Paradise Fly Catcher if you are lucky. It’s just a matter of keeping your eyes wide open.

Whilst children are welcomed here they are not particularly catered for. Eco- aware, energetic teenagers would love it, but toddlers or small children would need considerable supervision.
