Traditional Villages

This 300 yr old Portuguese manor house has been lovingly and authentically restored over several years. A former home of the Governor of Macau it is built in the Casa de Sobrado style and still has the porcelain grills he brought with him from the east. Walls are constructed from pure shell and lime plaster, window panes from mother of pearl and the antique furniture looks completely at home.

This is not the ‘hippy Goa’ of loud music and beach shacks, but a 10 min. drive north or south will take you to those beaches or lively villages with their shops, restaurants and markets. Better still, hire scooters from your villa and explore for yourselves.

The house grows around a central, inner courtyard where a cool, mosaic tiled fountain cools the air. This area also serves as dining room for the al fresco breakfast.

The garden is shaded by colourful and fragrant shrubs and trees and finds room for a 12.5 m. swimming pool, badminton area and nets and boules; loungers and hammocks beckon the sun worshippers.

Guest rooms have been trimmed from the original 24 rooms to just 7 spacious bedrooms and suites, 4 at the front of the building and 3 at the opposite side of the courtyard. The generous en suite bathrooms are completely modern. Though there are ceiling fans everywhere not all rooms are air conditioned, but this only matters at the height of summer.

Highs Lows
  • Elegant, atmospheric manor house with homely feel
  • Boules, badminton and pool in the garden. Just enough to amuse.
  • Enjoy the best of Goa without the noisy crowds
  • Only 3 of the rooms have air conditioning – may be a little uncomfortable in the highest temperatures (April - June)
  • Not always enough loungers by the pool, unless this has been addressed very recently
  • No street lighting so take a torch for that evening stroll
  • If beaches / nightlife are your thing, you will be dependent on transport
