Pushkar Safari Camp

Pushkar Camel Festival celebrated in: Puskhar, 14km from Ajmer.

This is a fascinating festival set in wonderful surroundings. Pushkar is one of the 5 pilgrimages that are held in high esteem by Hindus. The population of Pushkar rises from 14,000 to 200,000 during the fair, with more than 50,000 camels being sold, decorated, shaved and raced. This week long festival is truly spectacular and is a sight that should not be missed.

The location for this festival†lays barren for 55 weeks of the year and yet for one week each year, it is the centre of Rajasthan as†local traders of livestock come ffrom miles around to trade their camels and occasional other livestock.

Pushkar is a sleepy town for the rest of the year with little to offer the tourist but during festival time, tourists canadmire the†activities, socialising of Northern India. Colourful saris, long beards, hot days and cool nights are order of the day.† It is also a great story swapping time for tourists as they flock to absorb the atmosphere.

The accommodation in Pushkar town is very basic and Boutique India recommend†camping within the festival grounds and seeing all the acrtion.† We have†partnered with a local company who offer a number of semi-luxury tents.† The tents are pitched the week before the festival and can not be described as premium but they are perfectly comfortable with proper beds, hot running water and private toilets and shower areas.†

Dining is†as a group in a dining tent with a buffet style menu by professional caterers although Indian cuisine†is the core of the menu.

Some guests prefer to take a wander by gas light of an evening and eves drop on the traders† campfire soiree. However the safari camp does have a relaxation lounge with comfy cushions† and rugs†for casual chats.

Highs Lows
  • The best way to experience Pushkar but Book early to gain a tent
  • Expect early mornings, late nights and alot of hustle and bustle.
  • Keep valuables under lock and key
