Udaipur, in the heart of Rajasthan, is a city of lakes and palaces, each with its own special quality.†

Udaivilas individual essence is as a pristine version of an original Mewari moated palace with acres of white marble, landscaped terraces, arches and fountains, golden domes and a decorative pool of giant marble lotus flowers.† Our favourite from the Oberoi portfolio, for its absolute beauty and serenity- luxury personified.†

And, to restore the inner self after such a surfeit of beauty there is a superb Banyan Tree spa.

The hotel is set within 30 acres of former hunting grounds on the banks of Lake Pichola giving unrivalled views in all directions and reached by a short ride across the lake.† The magnificent arched entrance with its massive guardian elephant ushers you into a vast hexagonal lobby. Towering decorative arches surround you and in the centre a cool marble fountain plays.† This is a foretaste of the serenity and water featuring throughout the palace.†

The infinity swimming pool meanders around each suite to the perimeter of the retreat meeting the lake views.† The gardens provide a peaceful stroll with fountains and streams decoratively flowing underfoot, providing a faint tune.

Arrive by car or boat to a ceremonial welcome and scent of lemongrass into a beautiful reception dome.†

The interiors are embellished with gilt paint, hand painted frescos and intricate mirror work. The pavilions, arches and verandahs take you on a journey of discovery.† Upon reaching the central gardens take a moment to enjoy the silence that surround the main swimming pool and lounges.† Enclosed by intricate and domed fort walls and shaded by jewelled umbrellas, you are transformed to a world fit only for finest society.†

Architecture, dťcor, furniture is all luxurious and in excellent taste, without the overpowering opulence of some other palaces. Restrained colours – neutrals with sharp accents of russet, or cool blue and green blends create a very comfortable ambiance.

Highs Lows
  • Absolutely beautiful - one of¬†our favouriate¬†properties in Rajasthan.¬†

  • Stroll through the acres of gardens and conservation ares¬†with a naturalist.¬†

  • Direct access to the meandering swimming pool and lake views¬†from the superior rooms.
  • Children are welcomed but loud noises echo through the domes and beyond. A nanny is a good idea.
