Dining

The Malabar House is†a stunning transformation of a 300 year old home of a wealthy spice merchant into a chic boutique hotel, and is just two minutes walk from the sea.††

Built around a courtyard featuring a vast vine and frangipani clad Rain Tree, the green vanilla fronds clad the white-washed walls and bamboo – overhangs shade the plunge pool and tables spilling out from the restaurant verandah.

Inside is an eclectic mix of antiques and contemporary style; bold colours meet subdued hues, all softened by subtle lighting. Each item of furniture, modern art or old temple carving seems perfectly at home.

A total of 17 luxury rooms is made up of deluxe rooms, roof garden suites and the outstanding Malabar Suite (Room 11, but keep it to yourself).

Step outside and you are in the heart of the Heritage Zone, facing the Vasco da Gama grave and St. Francis’ Church, the oldest European church in India. A stay of 3 – 4 days can be filled with sight seeing, relaxation, an appreciation of the delicious food and excellent service by a young, friendly staff.

Dining is a real treat from the candle-lit courtyard to the deliscious seafood delights. Citadel and Karikathi dancers perform discreetly by the waterfall and complete the ambience.

The icing on the cake may be a visit or two to the therapeutic spa.

Highs Lows
  • A truely intimate boutique- a rare find in Kerala¬†

  • The best chef in Kerala¬†

  • The saree demonstration leaves every guest feeling like a Queen and few leave Kerala without taking a souvenir saree
  • The front office staff can be a little brisk¬†

  • The pool is small and lacks attention in peak season
