Traditional Villages

An unusual, elegant boutique/hip hotel tucked away in the Aravalli hills successfully marrying a glorious past with a stylish, almost minimalist present.

Built in the mid 18th century, abandoned in the 1960s, it has undergone an immense restoration to become a luxurious, intimate, all suite hotel.†

Sitting on a hill top, overlooking the village of Delwara and its pretty countryside, the one time fort palace is an eclectic mix of marble, precious stones and age- old craftsmanship with streamlined, uncluttered suites. “White” dominates and frames the colourful vistas through the enormous feature windows in the rooms.

The unassuming and gracious staff have been hand picked from local villages and trained to the highest level without stripping them of local personality. Each guest is greeted by the manager and† refreshing ginger and rose water to clear the throat from dusty roads.†

This is the ultimate romantic hideaway. All the suites include a sitting and dining area, many have Jacuzzis, personal pools and gardens.

Spend your morning lazing by the swimming pool set in the tranquil courtyard, where the castelated fort walls are echoed in the tile work and framework of your surroundings. Play tennis or croquet, take sightseeing trips by taxi, bicycle, camel or horseback then luxuriate in a spa session at the hands of experienced therapists. The more adventurous can request a Shikhar tent and feel more in tune with nature.†

Village life continues and guests are no longer strangers as they stroll through the lanes and paddy fields. The Palace serves the community well and all visitors are met with a friendly smile and iridescent sari.

One of the highlights of Udaipur and probably India’s best boutique hotel.

Highs Lows
  • Secret hideaway just 45mins from Udaipur¬†

  • It is possible to dine in a different location every night and you‚Äôll struggle to choose the most romantic¬†

  • Flying a kite on the hillside

  • A very personal touch
  • Easy to get rather disorientated in the palace but equally easy to establish privacy.¬†

  • Some light sleepers may find the beds a little hard in the Garden suites.¬†¬†

  • Despite the 2 well-disguised lifts, there are a lot of steps which are hard to avoid.
