Traditional Villages

Delightful location within a country village community in the heart of the Aravalli Hills. Owned and run by members of the original family, who still have apartments here; it has been restored with loving care, elegant taste and great attention to detail. The mantra of the kind, friendly hosts is ‘the comforts of today with ambiance of the past’. As the ancient Mewar nobility had to spend more time defending their territory of some 210 villages than acquiring great wealth this is a home with less gold and general ostentation than many, and consequently, it†has a more homely and restful feel.

The remarkable gateway into the first courtyard passes beneath the ‘katcheri’, where justice was administered, and on to the richly painted palace entrance. Narrow passages from this single entry point remind one of the historical need for defence.

Renovated just 10 years ago, Deogarh was one of Rajasthan’s first Fort hotels. Fifty rooms and suites are scattered about this immense building, each one named and decorated individually to reflect a person or event in the history of the palace. Stained glass windows, antique swings and punka fans have been restored to working order, providing lavish†comfort.

Innumerable roof terraces, well equipped with sun loungers and tables encourage idleness. Stairs and fort walls are reminiscent of a Dali painting but provide excellent views of the town community and roof-top life. Relax with a book or simply drink†in†the splendid views of the hills and lakes around. A stunning new swimming pool will tempt you when you need to cool off.

Do explore the local town. There is a motor cycle for hire in the hotel, where you will feel utterly safe and amongst friends. Fishermen will delight at the lake, which is home to many migrant birds and great fish. Deogarh also stables some fabulous horses should you wish to take a ride out into the country with the family.

Highs Lows
  • Charming hosts who choose Deogarh as their home too.¬†
  • Learn about the history and palate of tea/coffee experts- the family trade.¬†
  • Don‚Äôt be afraid to barter with the locals. Hand made jutties ‚Äď try before you buy.¬†
  • Fine selection of stylish local products in the Deogarh gift shop, albeit pricey.
  • Groups can dominate in peak season.¬†
  • The evening entertainment is a little commercial.¬†
  • A la carte menu did not live up to the charm of the architecture.
